This project began with a critical reflection on the phenomenon of South Korean apartment complexes functioning as isolated urban blocks that fail to converse with their surrounding city. To address this, we proposed a new planning model that successfully fulfills the private requirements of residential living while actively integrating broader urban functions. At the heart of this vision is a large-scale public open space that cuts through the residential complex, creating a vital pedestrian and visual connection between the historic old town of Namcheon-dong and the sea, allowing the architecture to truly coexist with the city.

Rather than simply carving out a path, this intervention orchestrates a vibrant mix of public parks, pedestrian thoroughfares, commercial zones, and landscaped environments. Furthermore, by introducing a monumental artwork named "BARREL," the space is transformed into a highly attractive public destination and a landmark for the local community.

We believe this strategy serves as the most proactive and definitive solution to countering the isolating tendencies of contemporary high-density housing, seamlessly stitching the private domain back into the public fabric of the city.
