This project is located in one of the most symbolic places in the history of K-pop — a site where a new cultural industry was born and where countless memories have accumulated over time. Long before the global success of what is now known as the Korean Wave, fans from Korea and around the world gathered here to wait for their favorite artists, take photographs, and record their visits. More than simply a building, the site became a place of anticipation, memory, and emotional connection shared between artists and their fans.
The project seeks to preserve and commemorate these layered memories while transforming the space into a new environment that embraces the public and reflects the company’s evolving history. Once a closed and inaccessible building reserved only for artists and staff, the architecture has now been reimagined as an open cultural destination where visitors can experience exhibitions, pop-up events, and diverse public programs.
The fragmented spatial organization of the existing building was carefully reorganized and unified to accommodate contemporary uses. The architectural language remains minimal and restrained, while the façade expresses the company’s identity through a parametric composition inspired by musical variation and rhythm. Flowing along the site’s slope, the segmented façade wraps continuously around the building, interacting with layers of metal and glass to create a constantly shifting architectural expression.
A double-layered metal façade with gradient perforations was designed to respond dynamically to the movement of pedestrians along the street. As visitors move past the building, the façade produces changing visual effects that reveal and conceal the interior simultaneously. At the open exhibition spaces, colored glass and mirrored surfaces overlap reflections of the city, the exhibitions, and the visitors themselves, creating moments where memory, expectation, and presence intersect. Through this layered spatial experience, the architecture embodies the unique atmosphere of this place — a space defined by anticipation and waiting.
