서소문 성지 역사 박물관은 과거의 구조에서 비롯된 7.8 × 8m의 그리드 체계를 기반으로 구성된다. 이 그리드는 공간의 필요에 따라 수직·수평 방향으로 확장되거나 축소되며, 전체 공간의 새로운 질서와 구조를 형성한다.

가장 깊은 땅 아래에 위치한 박물관영역은 다시 지상으로 올라가기 위한 반환점의 의미를 가지며, 전체 공간의 흐름 속에서 하나의 전환점으로 작동한다. 따라서 박물관의 공간디자인은 기존 구조가 지닌 구조적·공간적 특성을 유지하면서도 새로운 변화를 부여하는 데 초점을 두었다. 기존 그리드구조를 사선으로 연결하여 확장된 새로운 그리드 공간을 형성하였고, 이를 통해 전시에 필요한 다양한 공간을 구성하였다. 새롭게 형성된 그리드는 공간의 밀도와 전시물의 성격을 반영하며, 기존 구조와 긴장감 있는 공존 관계를 이루면서 박물관만의 톡특한 공간 경험을 만들어낸다.

Seosomun Shrine History Museum is organized around a 7.8 × 8 meter grid system derived from the site’s historical structure. Expanding and contracting both vertically and horizontally, the grid establishes a new spatial order and architectural framework throughout the museum.

Located deep beneath the ground, the museum acts as a symbolic turning point within the circulation sequence — a moment of transition before ascending back toward the surface. In response to this spatial narrative, the design preserves the structural and spatial logic of the existing framework while introducing a new architectural transformation.

By diagonally connecting and extending the original grid, a new spatial system emerges, generating diverse exhibition spaces tailored to different scales, densities, and curatorial conditions. This transformed grid reflects the spatial intensity and character of the exhibited works while coexisting in tension with the original structure, ultimately creating a unique and immersive architectural experience specific to the museum.
