Noodle Alien
Commissioned by the SODA Museum in Gyeonggi-do to design a summer outdoor installation for children, we faced the challenge of delivering an impactful space on a highly limited budget. Our vision was to create a structural pavilion that prioritizes child safety while inviting open-ended, playful interaction. To achieve this, we utilized soft Styrofoam tubes as our primary medium—a material that is intrinsically safe yet capable of forming rigid, self-supporting structures through intricate weaving techniques.
By experimenting with various patterns, we discovered how shifts in the weave directly transformed the overall geometry, allowing us to sculpt an intentional, fluid form. The resulting shelter is a luminous sanctuary for children that beautifully filters daylight and welcomes the summer breeze. To enrich the sensory experience of the space, we also introduced custom chairs crafted from upcycled vintage camping chair frames, completing an immersive, tactile pavilion where children can fully engage with the harmony of light, wind, and form.
