자연속에 깊이 파묻힌 듯한 장소와 깎아지르는 지형속에 위치한 대지는 수많은 건축적 상상을 불러일으키기에 충분했고, 대지에 주어진 빛, 어두움, 풍경, 지형, 수목, 수계의 아름다움과 거주하게 될 사람들 간의 다양한 관계를 설정하고자 했다. 자연환경에 프로그램이라는 건축이라는 새로운 지형을 더함으로써, 자연의 일부이며, 자연속에 어우러지는 건축을 만들고자 했다.

자연에 반응하는 집
경사진 지형의 흐름에 따라 프로그램 유닛을 수평적으로 나열해 배치하고, 각각의 유닛 공간들이 서로 다른 방향의 자연으로의 뷰를 가지면서도 프라이버시를 확보할 수 있도록, SPIRAL 형태로 말아 올려 디자인 함으로써, 자연스럽게 중정을 감싸며 배치되는 형태를 가지게 되었다. 건축의 디자인 또한 프로그램 유닛이 주어진 자연 지형에 자리잡아 연출된 모습을 그대로 드러내었다.

 삶에 반응하는 집
주택은 중정을 중심으로 4개의 작은 프로그램 유닛과 공용공간, 그리고 작은 근린생활시설로 이루어져 있다. 클라이언트의 가족구성원의 변화, 자녀의 성장, 결혼해 독립한 개별 가족구성원, 혹은 방문객 방문에 대응하기 위해, 프로그램 유닛을 중정을 중심으로 배치함으로써, 때로는 독립적으로, 때로는 소통이 가능하도록 하고, 집의 중심에 위치한 중정은 빛과 자연으로 채워진 가벼운 경계로 작동한다. 또한 프로그램 유닛의 독립적인 활용을 위해, 외부에서 접근 가능한 4개의 개별 출입구가 만들어져 있다.
 
구불거리는 언덕의 경사면을 따라 오르며 보이는 건축물은 프로그램 유닛의 배치에 따라, 다양한 방향성을 가지는 입면을 드러내며, 데크, 마당, 테라스, 중정 등의 자연을 느낄 수 있는 다양한 전이공간이 다양한 방향으로 배치되어 있다. 이를 통해 프로그램 유닛들은 서로 다른 풍경을 담아내고, 느끼게 된다. 시간의 흐름에 따른 자연의 변화와 거주자의 삶의 변화에 대응하고, 주어진 자연의 형태, 지형에 반응하며, 자연을 존중하며, 느끼며 살아갈 수 있는 주택이 되고자 했다.

Nestled deep within a steep and dramatic topography, this project begins with "architecture as a new topography," designed to blend seamlessly into the existing environment rather than disrupt it. Following the natural slope of the terrain, the building’s program units are arranged horizontally and wrapped into a spiral configuration. This thoughtful layout naturally encloses a central courtyard, allowing each unit to capture a unique, independent view of the landscape while ensuring absolute privacy for the residents. The architecture itself becomes a direct reflection of the land it rests upon.

At its core, the house is designed to adapt to the fluid chapters of human life. Composed of four small program units, shared common spaces, and a small neighborhood facility, the layout revolves around the central courtyard. This courtyard acts as a light-filled, flexible boundary that allows the units to function independently or connect effortlessly, easily accommodating changing family dynamics—such as growing children, independent adult children, or visiting guests. For enhanced autonomy, each of the four units features its own independent external entrance.

As one moves along the winding hillside, the building reveals diverse, dynamic elevations. Various transition spaces—including decks, yards, terraces, and the central courtyard—are oriented in multiple directions, framing different aspects of the surrounding scenery. Ultimately, this house is crafted to be a living space that respects and responds to both the timeless flow of nature and the evolving lives of the people who inhabit it.
