Operating under a limited budget and time constraints, we carefully selected materials that are easily fabricated to maximize the design possibility for this short term and temporary fashion project.

We chose paper as the medium, and we amplified the potential of this material, composing three separate layers - plain paper, traditional Korean paper and vinyl. The traditional Korean paper, akin to tissue paper, for strength, and vinyl for its water resistant functionality. For the production of the connecting cell units, we discovered that the paper medium had certain special characteristics of paper, such as the ability to distort, stretch and bend. These characteristics together facilitated the ability to construct. However, upon achieving a certain population of cell composition, we found an unexpected composition through which we could control the shape and structure.

By connecting CELL Units 1,2, 3, the shape’s level was able to be altered. And from the growth of the cell population, the levels, points and connections created a parameter to control the overall shape. While we only used 3 kinds of cell units, the entire structure was formed by the seams and penalization, creating a malleable pattern. This resulted in a solution to the issue regarding the scale of architecture, as the size of the fundamental elements are traditionally composed to build the whole structure.
